Solomon Islands

SOLOMON ISLANDS

Located at the top od the Coral Sea the Solomon Islands is home to some of the best spearfishing on the planet.  27.5-31C temperatures, crystal clear water and some of the most untocuhed reefs around will make any dive here a completely unforgetable experience.

Wild Blue will be running trips to Gatokae Island 16-25 May 2011.  We will be based at the Wilderness Lodge nestled in the Peava Village home to only 120 local villagers.

Accomodation at the lodge consists of traditional pandanus thatched roof and local hardwood buildings fitted out with western style plumbing and comforts.  All meals are fully catered from local seafood catches (hopefully ours!) and produce.  Our groups of 6 will be the only guests staying at the lodge.

The lodge has swim-in-swim-out and boat-in-boat-out access and depths of 200m can be be found within five minutes swim from the accomodation.  We will also have full use of their 21ft dive boat skippered by experienced blue-water spearfisherman as well as dug out canoes and plastic kayaks.

We will be staying within easy boat access of many diverse diving environments including shallow reefs, swim-throughs, drop-offs and five fish aggregation devices ranging in depth from 2000-3000m.  The Oct-Sept trips will be in the height of the game season and are likely to encounter baitballs.

All manner of tropical reef species are likely to be encoutered including coral trout, maori sea perch, green jobfish, cods, and several varieties of emporer.  The reef is also home to a variety of large pelagic species such as dog-tooth tuna, spanish mackeral, barracuda, milk fish, giant trevally and more.

The fads provide the ultimate blue water experience with yellow-fin tuna, rainbow runner, sailfish, mahi mahi and wahoo all being likely targets as well as curious silky and oceanic white-tip sharks.

Each trip will be 9 nights long including two nights in Honiara awaiting connecting flights and will include 6 days full boat charter.

The price will be $4500.  This is all inclusive of fllights, accomodation, meals at Gatokae and 7 days charter diving on the Fads.  Our first trip is nearly full but there are still a couple of spaces left.

Don't miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to dive one of the world's truly great spearfishing areas!!
